| The Troy Judo Club meets on Monday evenings: Beginner Youth: 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (until Spring) Beginner Adults: 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Advanced Youth: 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Advanced Adults: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. Streetwise Self Defense: 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. Open Practice: 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. |
| Because Troy Judo is a part of the Troy Parks and Recreation Program and we meet at a local school, classes are subject to the same schedule variations as the School District. For example, if the schools have a snow day on a Monday we will not have class. If the schools are closed due to a holiday, or break period, we will not have class. | Beginner Youth - This class is for children under the age of 14 who have not had any previous Judo training. Students are taught falling techniques, basic throws, and the application of these throws to an opponent. Students must complete at least one class session (7-9 weeks) before moving into the advanced class. Determination for advancement will be made by the instructor (based primarily on age and skill, level). Students should wear a button-less long sleeve shirt and sweat pants to class. |
| Beginner Adult - This class is for students over the age of 14 who have not had any previous Judo training. Students are taught falling techniques, basic throws, and the application of these throws to an opponent. These students will join the advanced adult class within a few weeks of starting (depending on skill level). Students should wear a button-less long sleeve shirt and sweat pants to class. A Judogi (uniform) will be required to advance in rank. |
| Advanced Youth - This class is for children under the age of 14 who have successfully completed at least one session of the Beginner Class or had previous Judo training. Students gain knowledge of more advanced techniques and refine skills taught in previous sessions. A Judogi (uniform) is generally required for this class in order for the student to advance in rank. |
| Advanced Adult - This class is for students over the age of 14 who have had previous Judo training. Students are taught advanced techniques, ground skills, submission holds, and the application of these techniques to an opponent. A Judogi (uniform) is required for this class. |
| Street-wise Self Defense - This class is for individuals who desire to learn skills for practical day-to-day self defense situations. A combination of Judo and jujitsu techniques are taught to students in addition to building awareness of how to avoid dangerous encounters. |
| Open Practice - This is time alloted for students to work on individual skill development. Students are encouraged to approach Judoka of higher rank for one-on-one instruction. Time can also be used for free practice (Randori) or the refining Kata skills. |
